He Treated Us Like His Own Clients
"Agent Jim (James) Whatley did an excellent job for my family move and provided unexpected services after move-in day. Jim represented the sellers of our new home, however, he treated us like his own clients. Whenever we moved in he did a number of things to make us feel welcome and prepared for Florida home ownership. Specifically, he showed me how to properly tend to the HVAC unit, outdoor air conditioning fan, sprinkler system controls, and the electrical brick. Also he gave us a wall plug that tells you if the electrical outlets are working and ensured all of our wall jacks around water were set to protect against electrical incidents. The biggest thing Jim did for our family occurred when our dishwasher would not start immediately after closing on the house and moving in. In spite of the position I was in, having already signed ownership of the house, Jim offered to write me a check out of his own commission for $270 because he knew the harsh truth to owning a home - sometimes you draw the short end of the stick. With this monetary gift, my wife and I were able to purchase a mid range dishwasher that should last us 8-10 years. I cannot say enough about Jim Whatley and hope this review encourages you to choose him for your real estate needs."

Summary of the transaction
A family relocated to Navarre and purchased a home on Sundance Court. Jim Whatley represented the sellers in that transaction, not the buyers. That part matters, because what happened next had nothing to do with obligation.
After closing, Jim showed up and walked the new owners through the things that trip up a lot of first-time Florida homeowners: the HVAC system, the outdoor AC unit, the sprinkler controls, and the electrical panel. He also provided a basic outlet tester and made sure the GFCI outlets near water sources were functioning correctly. These are not things an agent is required to do. Jim just did them.
Then the dishwasher stopped working. The buyers had already signed. The house was theirs. There was no legal requirement for anyone to do anything. Jim wrote a personal check for $270 out of his own commission so the family could replace it.
That is the whole story. No drama, no negotiation. He saw a problem, he fixed it, and he moved on.
Why this review matters
Most buyers assume that once closing day is over, the agent's job is done. That is usually true. What this review describes is something different.
Jim was on the seller's side of this transaction. His job was to represent the people selling the house. He did that. But when the buyers moved in and ran into a problem, he did not look the other way.
If you are buying a home in Navarre or anywhere along the Emerald Coast, the agent you choose matters, but so does the character of every agent involved in the deal. This review is a good reminder that real estate is still a people business. The paperwork closes. The relationships stick around.
Florida homeownership also comes with a learning curve. Sprinkler systems, HVAC maintenance, GFCI outlets, and electrical panels are things that can catch new residents off guard, especially if you are relocating from out of state. Having someone walk you through those basics on day one is worth a lot.
